Ralph Byer began wood turning in July of 2017. He is self- taught with a little help from YouTube.
His inspiration came from his wife, Anita. She wanted a wood salad bowl. Ralph and Anita came upon a wood working artisan at a craft fair not too far from their mountain home in North Carolina. They purchased two bowls. The artisan, Harry Suddreth invited them to his shop. They visited... and Ralph walked away inspired.
With the purchase of a pre owned lathe, a bowl gouge, and some salted Norfolk Pine, Ralph went to work on his new hobby.
